The start of a new school year means it is time for a new "Musicianship Monthly" activity!

What is "Musicianship Monthly?" Each month, I share links to free resources you can use to focus on a specific musicianship skill with your students all month long! Want to see past skills we have covered? Click HERE!

For September, our focus is on getting students back into the routine of practicing! In this post I am rounding up resources related to practicing--from helpful articles on how to develop practice skills in students at each level, to fun worksheets that give your students ideas for fresh ways to practice their music.

Ready for the "practice-palooza?" Keep reading to learn more....

First, let's start with a few articles about how to best help students at each level learn how to practice efficiently. As students mature and progress at the piano, the skills they need to practice their music will change. These articles will give you tips and tricks that will help you adjust your teaching strategies so that you can best help your students at each level of their development.

Next, here are a few fun practice worksheets that help your students build their own "toolbox" of practice skills. Print these out for your students as reference, or just try out one worksheet each week this month to give your students experience practicing in different ways!

Click on the images below to download a free PDF of any of these worksheets.

Looking for a systematic way to help your younger students know how to practice a new piece independently? Check out this handy "practice cake" printable that will give students a step-by-step process for practicing any new piece.

Do you have students who think "practicing" means simply playing a piece over and over again from start to finish? This worksheet will give students alternative ways to practice a new piece more effectively.

Is your student struggling with a tricky spot in their music? This "roll the dice" practice worksheet is a fun way to help students master those tricky spots in their pieces.
What do you think? How do you teach your students how to practice? Any strategies, tips, or tricks that you have found to be helpful? I'd love to hear from you in the comments!
