"Carol of the Bells," the classic Christmas piece by Mykola Leontovych, is always a favorite among my students! I have found that this can also be a great piece for helping students with their improvisational skills.
This "Carol of the Bells" improv worksheet provides a gentle introduction to improvising for elementary students. Since the melodic and harmonic material is already provided, students just have to decide how many times to repeat each section and in which octave they would like to play each section on the piano.
Students are also encouraged to experiment with varying the dynamics and holding the damper pedal as they create their own arrangement of the piece.
