You may recall from my previous post on rock music (here) that it is a genre I love to teach. My goal with this book was to not only write music that is fun to play, but to also to teach students about rhythm, harmony, and form found in rock music. You will find pieces featuring common rock chord progressions, pieces in song form, and lots of great rhythmic challenges for students in levels 2 and 3 of most method books.
This book also features pieces inspired by a variety of rock genres, including blues rock ("Low Down"), reggae rock ("Groovin'"), metal ("Edge"), and even folk rock/country ("Gone"). I think there is truly something for every student.
Along the way, I also sneak in some great teaching moments, like playing a left hand melody ("Chill"), using rotation ("Changes"), counting sixteenth note patterns ("Sweet!"), playing in 6/8 time ("Over It"), and many more! But your students don't have to know that. :)
This collection was so much fun for me to write. If you would like to see and hear the music from this book, click HERE.
And, rock on!
