Are you preparing for your spring recital? This month on my blog, I am sharing a 4 part series featuring my top recital picks for students at each level!

This series will highlight original pieces and arrangements from my own catalog and will include some of my own personal favorites, as well as some of my best-selling, most popular titles for each level.

Today I am highlighting showstopping recital pieces for beginners! Keep reading to see more....

Finding simple but recital-worthy pieces for beginners can be a challenge. The solos and duets shown below all use concepts introduced in primer and level 1 of most method books and either stick to the notes around middle C or C position, or can be easily taught by rote.

Duets
I love playing duets with my beginners, especially if it is their first recital experience. Not only does a teacher duet part make any piece sound more sophisticated, students benefit from the confidence boost that playing with their teacher beside them can bring.

Looking for a true showstopper that will thrill students and audiences alike? Check out this duet arrangement of the classic rock 'n roll song "Great Balls of Fire." Sheet music available HERE.

(Also available for late elementary, early intermediate, and intermediate piano solo! See all available versions HERE.)
For beginners who love lyrical pieces, this arrangement of Handel's famous "Passacaglia" will have classic appeal! As a bonus, the student part can be taught easily by rote. Sheet music available HERE.

(Also available for easy piano and intermediate piano solo! See all available versions HERE.)
Your beginning gamer students will enjoy this primer level arrangement of the famous "Tetris" theme! Sheet music available HERE.

(Also available for elementary, late elementary, and early intermediate piano solo and easy evenly-leveled duet! See all available versions HERE.)

My "Ready to Rock" collection is full of original teacher/student duets that will make your beginners shine!

The first piece in the collection, "Showdown," has been a special favorite with my beginners and sticks to just the notes in C position.

Looking for more recital-worthy duets? Check out "Ready to Quest!"

"Double Dare" from this collection is another C position favorite that sounds impressive but is accessible to beginners.

Solos

For students who are ready to play solo, but still want a piece that sounds sophisticated, check out these favorites:
This lively theme from "Peanuts" is always a student favorite, and is patterned enough to be taught by rote. Sheet music available HERE.

Also available for easy piano and intermediate piano solo and easy piano duet! See all available versions HERE.
This lovely arrangement from Minecraft sounds sophisticated due to the use of the damper pedal, but is easy to learn! Sheet music available HERE.

Also available for early intermediate piano HERE.

Your youngest "Swifties" will be thrilled to play this accessible arrangement of Taylor Swift's popular song "champagne problems." Sheet music available HERE.

Also available for easy piano and intermediate piano solo! See all available versions HERE.

This pattern-based solo is perfect for rote teaching and gives students the opportunity to learn about the whole tone scale, clusters, and holding the damper pedal.

My "Mission: X" collection is another great option for beginning level solos and duets that sound sophisticated!

Check out "Battle Stations" (duet) or "Star Crossed" (solo) for two more primer-level options with a fun outer space theme.

Looking for more elementary level recital options? Browse my whole catalog of over 300 original pieces and arrangements at the elementary level HERE.

What do you think? What qualities do you look for when you are choosing recital pieces for your beginners? I'd love to hear from you in the comments!

Because of you, I have a studio full of some happy boys prepping for an "Out of This World" themed recital coming up next month. There's a great mix of video game pieces as well as some others from your books through Piano Pronto. Thank you so much for keeping the beginners in mind!
