Back in 2020, I shared a couple of Christmas arrangements that could be played with one hand alone. I have received such a positive response from those arrangements over the past couple of years that today I am sharing 2 more Christmas pieces that are playable by either left or right hand alone!

Keep reading to see the new arrangements, plus links to the old arrangements in case you missed them!

Unfortunately, injuries can happen when you and your students least expect them, so it is a good idea to have some one hand pieces in your teaching toolbox for whenever the need arises! You may already be familiar with my collection of pieces for one hand, "Hit Singles," but what if injuries happen during the holiday season?

Today I am sharing 4 Christmas arrangements (including 2 new ones for this year) that can be played by either left or right hand alone! Use these for when injuries strike, or even as a fun challenge for students any time.

Note that since these pieces are playable by either hand alone, the fingerings for the right hand are indicated above the notes and the fingerings for the left hand are indicated below the notes. If your student finds the extra finger numbers confusing, feel free to white out the fingering you don't need!

Mid- to Late Elementary Arrangements (New for 2022!)
These pieces are a great introduction to the idea that one hand can play across both clefs, and that one finger can hold a harmony note while other fingers in the same hand play the melody.

These pieces provide the added challenge of working on voicing and pedaling in a one hand format.

What do you think? What are your best tips and tricks for working with a student with an injury? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Thank you for sharing these arrangements! Not only for injuries, but these will be great for engaging musicians with physical limitations of shoulders, arms and hands, whether temporary or full-time. While recovering from broken bones in his hand, I had a student focus on playing chord progressions with one hand and singing the melodic line. Then, we moved into composition.

You are very welcome! I hope these arrangements are helpful for a variety of situations. Having students sing the melody while playing chords with the opposite hand is a great suggestion--thank you for sharing!

Oh, perfect--she may be able to learn a couple of these by then! I hope she enjoys these while her arm recovers!
