Today I am sharing a freebie that is always a hit with my students--Scott Joplin's "Maple Leaf Rag!" This late elementary arrangement is a great introduction to the ragtime music of the famous composer.

This freebie is part of my brand new collection, More Easy Classical Favorites: 12 Arrangements for Late Elementary Pianists. Want to learn more? Read on for more about this new collection and to get your free copy of "Maple Leaf Rag!"

One of Scott Joplin's early works, "Maple Leaf Rag" became a model for future generations of ragtime composers who were inspired by his music. Joplin went on to write over 100 ragtime pieces for piano, a ragtime ballet, and two operas. Although ragtime music fell out of favor after Joplin's death in 1917, it experienced a resurgence in the 1970s, and Scott Joplin was posthumously awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1976.
